Brooklyn, N.Y. – Amid a freezing Sunday morning, Re:Serve volunteers valiantly carried massive boxes of food to their first event to distribute it for those in need.
“Even in the freezing weather, seeing families leave with food and a smile makes it completely worth it,” remarked Edwin Chen, cofounder of Re:Serve.

That is precisely why Re:Serve was created. Here at Re:Serve, our mission is to intercept perfectly edible food that would otherwise be discarded and redistribute it to food-insecure communities in greater need.
For this event alone, Re:Serve has amassed over $17,000 in donations to distribute food to food-insecure families. Dedicated Re:Serve volunteers ensured that over 500 families were served, and every one of them returned home with food in their hands, worrying less about what they would eat later that day.

Across numerous communities, barriers such as rising food costs and insufficient household incomes make it difficult for many to acquire food consistently.
In a successful attempt to address these difficulties, Re:Serve has helped alleviate the overwhelming stress around food in many households and has consistently provided food to a plethora of food-insecure families through its distribution from this event alone.
“It’s been hard to keep food on the table. I have three young children who need to eat every day, and Re:Serve guarantees that they’ll meet their nutritional needs,” said Ying Jiang, a community member served by Re:Serve.
Another parent, Yu Chen, shared a similar concern: “I’ve been really stressed about affording food. Some nights, we go to bed hungry. Knowing we’ll have meals tonight and in the days ahead makes a huge difference.”
Beyond these individuals, many others facing food insecurity due to the cost of food have cited Re:Serve’s event as utterly essential for feeding their families and reducing stress concerning acquiring an adequate amount of food.

Through Re:Serve’s food distribution, Re:Serve ensures that every person leaves with an adequate amount of food in their hands and that food insecurity won’t plague these communities further, creating an unequivocal impact within its first event.
Re:Serve cofounder Eason Chen says, “We’ve seen firsthand how much this matters to families. Our goal is simple, which is to serve more families and do it better each time.”
