Re:Serve Brings Its Mission to Oyster Bay

OYSTER BAY, N.Y. — It’s easy to forget just how much perfectly edible food is being wasted around the world. Even among nearby communities, food waste remains a critical problem that is all too often forgotten. Yet even with food insecurity continuing to threaten many communities that struggle to get access to three meals a day, food waste has not ceased to exist, as massive amounts of perfectly edible food continue to be trashed every day. Together with People Loving People Oyster Bay, re:Serve has successfully hosted a food distribution event serving food to the community of Oyster Bay, effectively reducing food insecurity.

In just this one Oyster Bay event, re:Serve has provided food for over 200 families. This has created a memorable impact, ensuring that many Oyster Bay families were able to put food on the table when they needed it most.

“It is good to help people in need, and it was a good session carrying these bags of food. We genuinely want to help families, and life is about helping others,” recalled re:Serve volunteer Winston Chang.

Throughout the event, re:Serve volunteers ensured that families returned home with sufficient food. re:Serve volunteers furthermore carried bags of food to the families’ cars, assisting community members while creating an unforgettable impact.

Cofounder Eason Chen reminisced, “Every bag of food that we served holds real impact. This food will provide sufficient nutrition for families rather than being disposed of. re:Serve is effectively combating food waste and food insecurity at once.”

“Our mission here at re:Serve is to reduce food insecurity and food waste while providing meals for families that experience food insecurity. Food waste and food insecurity remain problems that affect many communities, and through our successful Oyster Bay event, we were able to create an impact with the food we provided,” recounted cofounder Edwin Chen.

For these reasons, the initiative re:Serve was created. re:Serve’s mission is to intercept perfectly fine food that would otherwise be discarded and reroute it to families experiencing food insecurity, unequivocally reducing food insecurity among various communities, this time in Oyster Bay.
